Roma Street Parkland Precinct - Framework Plan

The Roma Street Parklands precinct has entered a period of transformational change with the construction of major infrastructure projects and declaration as a Priority Development Area in December 2019. City Parklands Services procured WCG to develop a robust and well considered Framework Plan for Roma Street Parkland to guide its future.

The framework plan realises the opportunities of the upper parkland and integrates the ‘upper’ and ‘lower’ sectors of the parkland as well as identifying several strategic issues that need to be addressed to secure the role and function of the Parkland moving forward.

WCG developed a range of strategies and actions that will ensure the park continues to be a fit-for-purpose, safe and attractive, engaging, valued and well-utilized inner-City Parkland.

Leading several collaborative internal workshops, WCG was able to identify a range of issues, opportunities and potential risks affecting the Parkland. In addressing these issues several planning overlays and strategies were identified and prioritised to develop an overall action plan to guide the organisations decision making process and capital expenditure.

The process also involved the need to consider external commercial partners to the parkland, impacts from the PDA which incorporated nearly a third of the current parklands within this external decision-making process.
