WCG are introducing the Yimby concept to Australia with the #yimbyqld series

23/02/2015

Yimby, or “yes in my back yard”, is our bid to bring back some balance to the development debate, particularly in a city and region with a tendency to focus on the negative when it comes to developers and city development.

The concept originates from NYC as an initiative to discuss, document and promote good development. At the same time, it’s a movement which counters the negative Nimby stereotypes so common place in big cities which, despite the demand for housing, jobs created, lifestyle precincts and the associated community benefits we have come to not only enjoy but expect. The Gasworks precinct in Newstead, Brisbane springs to mind.

Like #yimbynyc, we want to get cutting edge information on good, new development out in the public arena and encourage debate with an open mind.

To kick-start the #yimbyqld series for the year, we put forward Shea Residences, a boutique development proposal by Sunland Group in St Lucia, of 28 luxury and independent villas sharing landscaped grounds and recreation spaces.

Features of the infamous Pink Palace redevelopment include retention of showpieces from the residence, including the Neptune statue and pavilion, which will now be visible from Swann Road. Residents will enjoy sweeping views to the Brisbane CBD, Brisbane River and Mt Coot-tha from villas. The built form of the villas reflects the scale of the surrounding area and reintroduces the traditional rhythm of the streetscape, with 14 duplexes across the 14 existing lots on which the original Pink Palace was majestically positioned.

Join the movement - say ‘yimby’ to good development and share #yimbyqld on your photos and posts.
