At this Years PIA awards, the project team for Mirani Community Precinct was presented a commendation award within the category of Strategic Planning Project - a project that the Design studio here at WCG was extremely proud to assist Mackay Regional Council in producing.
The master planning project led by the Design team here at WCG included a number of stakeholder workshops and design charrettes seeking to develop a range of options for the site; Originally sought to house the local Pioneer Valley Machinery Preservation Society and Pioneer Classic Car Club in a large shed, we facilitated a more inclusive design process that additionally repurposed a range of existing buildings within the site. The options were tested, costed and worked to create a sense of identity and place for the local community which was key to the desired design outcome.
Combining site planning, spatial design, landscape design and site functionality, the WCG's Design Studio was integral to the concept development which resulted in 100% Council support to fund the next stages of the design process. We have collaborated with Deicke Richards Architects in delivering the public realm and developing the initial master plan concept into a detailed design ready for construction.
We also worked closely with Mackay Council to understand and to deliver on their vision for the process and the site; it was a true collaboration between the public sector and private consultants.
We would like to congratulate all of the team behind this excellent project and to acknowledge Stacey Mills, Julie Nimmo and Jaco Ackerman for their strong leadership and support.
