What an eventful month it has been! During the month of October our team have hosted, attended & spoken at six Industry Events; raised over $24,000 for our charity of choice Beddown through the Shed Your Bed 2021 Campaign; held several staff activities including Trivia Night, bring your dog to work day and a company breakfast / workshop with our special guest Kim Yabsley. We also received a highly commended acknowledgement in the Surveying Consultancy Excellence Awards 2021 and one of our projects has been nominated for the upcoming 2021 Awards for Planning Excellence with the Planning Institute of Australia. A warm thank you to everyone who have collaborated with us, invited us and worked with us to make all this possible. Click on the title to learn more.
On the International Women’s Day (IWD) 2021 the Women of Wolter (WOW) came together with their industry peers not only to celebrate this important day but to unpack some of the challenges women have faced throughout history and to recognise some incredible achievements of the women who have come before us and the women we know today. The IWD 2021 theme #ChooseToChallenge also called us to think about our ongoing responsibility to make life more sustainable for women in workplaces, to be the change and to lead with positivity. In line with our core value of Citizenship, the WCG Team will shed their beds on the night of World Homeless Day 2020 to raise money for their charity of choice Beddown. As a team, we aim to raise a minimum $5,000 by 10th October 2020 – World Homeless Day to help Beddown achieve their mission of “repairing the quality of life before building the life of quality.” There are a number of ways you can help and it’s as simple as Shed, Share, Support or do the three. The Property Council of Australia's Inaugural Future Cities Summit in Sydney presented many important conversations about sustainable, smart and liveable cities, as industry leaders shared their thoughts and calls to action. But one message that particularly stood out was the groundswell support of the YIMBY movement including the recognition that developing a YIMBY mindset is key to future proof Australian cities. Last week, Town Planners, Alistair, Joel and Clare attended the PIA Congress at the Gold Coast. The congress provided insightful keynote speakers and presentations covering a range of topics and challenges that our cities and regions face. These focused on the constant pressures of climate change, population growth, sustainability and housing demand.
After launching our company's internal sustainability program “Orange is the New Green” mid-2018, WCG Team were able to raise $1,000 through the reusable coffee cup (KeepCups) initiative, which we proudly donated to the Bremer Catchment Association during their first team meeting of 2019. It is great to see that our company’s internal sustainability efforts have transferred into a significant financial benefit for an organisation that shares our values.
