Clearview Urban Village announced as a finalist at the UDIA Qld Awards for Excellence 2017

23/11/2017

After months of work and preparation, on Friday 3rd November, Wolter Consulting Group attended the UDIA Qld Awards for Excellence Luncheon at Brisbane City Hall. Wolter Consulting Group entered Heran Building Group’s Seven Hills project Clearview Urban Village into the Consultant’s Excellence category.

The ability to overcome significant challenges has seen Wolter Consulting Group (WCG) named a finalist in the 2017 UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence.

WCG entered the outstanding Clearview Urban Village development at Seven Hills in the Consultant’s Excellence category of this year’s awards.

A Heran Building Group project, Clearview Urban Village will feature 10 distinct precincts across a nine hectare site and shows it’s possible to bring new developments into the inner city that enhance the standard of living of not just those who choose to live there but the broader community.

Project manager for the development was WCG senior associate town planner, Ryan MacLellan, leading a multi-disciplined team including planning, environment, surveying, landscape and urban design.

Throughout the project the team faced a number of challenges including:

  • An extremely active and well-informed community focused on a range of issues including traffic, environment, community facilities and built form.  The community position was initially quite volatile, due in part to major objection to previous proponents;
  • A complex State and local political environment;
  • A well advanced neighbourhood planning process, including a draft neighbourhood plan which set out precise development obligations, and placed considerable downward pressure on potential yield and project feasibility; and
  • An unacceptable level of uncertainty around infrastructure charges and offsets.

Under Ryan’s leadership the team worked through each challenge, showing the innovation and professionalism WCG are renowned for across the industry.

At the annual awards ceremony, WCG were pipped at the post by a strong submission by Covey Associates for their Parklakes 2 Estate.

The calibre of projects and consultant’s in this category was of a very high standard, with the other two finalists in the category being Cardno Queensland’s work on Greater Springfield and McMurtrie Consulting Engineers’ work on Alf Larson and Lions Park.

WCG shone brightly at the awards and, while not being ultimately successful with the Clearview submission, they received due recognition for their work on Fitzgibbon Chase.

The Economic Development Queensland submission was successful in the Residential Subdivision category with the WCG landscape and planning teams playing an integral part in the project.

The UDIA Queensland Awards for Excellence capped off a great year for WCG setting them up for a stellar 2018 when they celebrate their 25th year of providing professional, innovative and inspiring expertise to their clients across all five of their divisions.
