As one of the first commercial buildings developed as part of the revitalisation of Newstead, the Fujitsu Building and associated buildings at 1 Breakfast Creek Road represents the gateway between the Gasworks precinct and wider Newstead and Fortitude Valley and the rest of the CBD. After almost two decades acting as a commercial hub, its revitalisation and the introduction of new and activating uses is now underway. The project involves the retention of all existing buildings but introduces new uses including a café, shops and medical services to attract new commercial tenants and visitors to the complex. In addition, significant improvements of the central plaza are included to provide shading and climatic control, provide quality publicly-accessible spaces and to activate the space throughout the day, on evenings and during the weekend.
Our planning team facilitated the development approval of these changes and improvements to bring the complex to life. As existing tenants, we have a personal knowledge of the challenges and the significant potential of the complex and are passionate about achieving the best possible outcome for the complex. In conjunction with the architects, engineers and our WCG Design team, we realised the potential of this important site at the interface of Newstead and the inner-city.
Through careful strategising and negotiation with Council, we avoided the payment of unduly high infrastructure charges while maximising the flexibility of the uses on site into the future.
