The design process guided our client Mackay Regional Council to identify the preferred feasible option for the precinct through applying a multi-criteria analysis, whilst considering potential development costs. The charrette process ensured that the various stakeholders and potential scope requirements were collected and evaluated in a manner that enabled Council to vote on approval of the funds required to implement the Master Plan.

WCG led the design process and options review process through a bespoke methodology developed to ensure key stakeholder buy in and understanding of cost benefit analysis outcomes.

The workshops identified design options that included a high-level cost estimation and feasibility. Various community and stakeholder benefits for the design options were then evaluated against the overall project feasibilities to enable Council to effectively assess the options and determine the highest and best use.

The success of this process was reflected in the further engagement to undertake a similar process in guiding the development of Council’s heritage strategy for the region.
