Rachael Harmston has been appointed as a member of the Sunshine Coast Regional Council's newly formed Urban Design Advisory Panel (UDAP).

The UDAP has been formed by SCRC to provide independent expert design advice to Council on design issues associated with proposals for policy, master plans and major development applications that are referred to the Panel, in order to inform Council's decision making processes.

Manly Design Workshop

Building on our previous involvement in the Wynnum CBD Urban Renewal Planning Charrette, Wolter Consulting Group recently organised and facilitated a 2-3 day design workshop for Manly. In order to maximise the outputs from this process, we compiled a highly skilled team including Novus Urban, ESD, and Deicke Richards.

Working to a limited budget, the group focused on future opportunities around the existing Manly village and the Manly rail station. The process involved a site visit and harbour boat cruise on the Wednesday afternoon and evening. The following morning focused on community and property owner engagement, followed by 2 intensive days of design concluding with a final presentation on the Friday evening.

Brisbane City Council is advancing a master plan for Manly Village and actively participated at the officer and political level. The consultant team is now focused on producing the outcomes document, which will be forwarded to the Council for their consideration in finalising the master plan.  Find out more... (pdf document)

Wolter Consulting Group Wins Queensland Planning Award

Wolter Consulting Group recently won a Planning Institute of Australia (Queensland Division) Award for Excellence in Planning, for its contribution to the Wynnum CBD Urban Renewal Planning Charrette.

Wolter Consulting Group was part of a dynamic landowner and consultant based team which undertook an ambitious community engagement, planning and design process to facilitate a revitalisation and renewal strategy for the Wynnum CBD area.

Making use of communicative and collaborative planning approaches, the process succeeded in arousing widespread public interest with more than 250 people attending both the opening and closing sessions of the week long Design Charrette.

The process investigated numerous options to redevelop the centre and capitalise on the public transport benefits afforded by the strategically located rail station. Through testing by design, community engagement and viability analysis, the process established a feasible redevelopment strategy to deliver population growth, local vitality and regeneration of stagnant areas. Wolter Consulting Group prepared a draft Local Plan to facilitate delivery of the strategy.

This Award winning project is now automatically entered into the National Awards which will be announced during the PIA National Congress in May 2007.
